The State of California announced nearly $25 million in funding for entertainment projects in Tulare County. The money will be used for new parks in Visalia, Woodlake and Porterville.

The funding comes from Proposition 68, California Parks and Water Bond 2018, which aims to create more funds for impoverished areas in the park. The per capita parks in the San Joaquin Valley lag far behind the rest of the state. Experts say that lack of green space can cause a series of health problems for children and adults.

Obesity and diabetes top the list of diseases faced by children and adults at Valleywide.

Three cities in Tulare County are using the money to build brand new parks for residents to enjoy.

In Visalia, city leaders are providing an inclusive experience for park visitors.

"Today's grant announcement marks a step forward for our community. It is the culmination of community support, citizen feedback and strong partnerships," said Mayor Steve Nielsen. "This grant will enable us to create Visalia's first inclusive playground, a playground that truly serves children of all abilities."

More than 450 applications have been received from all over California. The total asking price is US$2.42 billion. Fewer than 115 items—approximately US$548.3 million—have been approved.

"Bridge Horizons Play Park will change the way we look at games, and it will be a gift to Visalia," said Jeremy Rogers, director of community services. "The vision and feedback of our residents, our city council, and all those involved in helping us prepare and apply for this funding brings us to this historic day."

In total, Proposition 68 has allocated more than $250 million to parks and conservation efforts. The priority of money is to help those most in need recover or create new space.
