ByHeart, a Pennsylvania infant formula manufacturer, has received $1.75 million in Reconstruction Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant funding to improve the facility in Reading, state Senator Judy Schwank (District D-11) announced Monday.
ByHeart’s Lexington project will turn the company into a fully integrated manufacturer of infant formula and one of the few infant formula manufacturers in the country. The grant funds will be used to build the canning line and dry mixing area of the ByHeart factory at 61 Vanguard Drive, Exeter. The improvement is the last part of the supply chain at ByHeart's manufacturing plant to ensure that the final canned product is released from Pennsylvania.
"As a next-generation infant nutrition company, ByHeart chose the Commonwealth as the location of our facilities and our production center," said a statement issued by ByHeart. "Since then, we have seen extraordinary support from Senator Schwank and Governor (Tom) Wolfe to develop our mission. We are very humble and honored to accept RACP grants to continue our work and create high Skilled manufacturing jobs and promote Pennsylvania’s dairy innovation ecosystem."
Officials estimate that the project will allow Pennsylvania dairy farmers to enter a global market worth 70 billion U.S. dollars. The improvement of the factory will create an additional 50 jobs while supporting other companies in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries.
"ByHeart's project will have a positive impact on the local area through the creation of high-paying jobs and promote the sales of Pennsylvania dairy products statewide," Schwank said. “This spring, my staff and I had the opportunity to visit the facility and learn about ByHeart’s goals for the facility. This project has many benefits, including creating an ecosystem for high-value dairy products, such as organic grass-fed whole Fat milk, organic grass-fed lactose, and value-added whey protein. For me, supporting the application of this project is a breeze. I am grateful to ByHeart for seeing the value of Berks County and also to Governor Wolf for funding this project. ."
