A council of Essex County revealed how a new swimming pool looks at Pittsea’s leisure centre if the plan continues.

The Basildon committee is preparing a planning application to expand the Eversley Recreation Center on Crest Avenue to include a new 25-meter four-lane swimming pool.

These designs have been integrated by the architect Calfordseaden and have been open for public comment.

The City Council stated that the swimming pool is part of a long-term plan to improve health and fitness facilities in the Basildon borough and it will be used for public sports and school groups.

Calfordseaden has stated that it wants to create a "modern and attractive facility" while also being "environmentally conscious" in its design.

The leisure center currently has an indoor gymnasium, gymnasium, physiotherapy room, floodlight artificial grass court and 65-station gymnasium.

The architect stated in the design and visit statement on the council website: “Currently, there is no swimming in the nearby area. According to the 2019 local demand report, it is determined that the Eversley Recreation Center is fully capable of providing this provision.

"The existing building was built in 1970 and was refurbished to a high standard in 2017. From the outside, the building has not undergone major expansion or renovation. Although it is well maintained, it is believed that modern additions will help revitalize the site .

"The new pool is connected to the existing center through a reconfigured internal corridor, which means that the existing center reception can continue to serve these two facilities."

The new swimming pool will be built on the south side of the center and will contain a 25-meter-long four-lane swimming pool with a maximum depth of 1.2 meters and a spectator area on one side.

The changing facilities will include two group changing rooms suitable for school use, single and double changing rooms, family changing rooms and barrier-free changing rooms.

There will also be toilets and showers. The swimming pool can accommodate a total of 70 swimmers and spectators and is wheelchair accessible.

Calfordseaden added: “The new building will be supported by 50 additional parking spaces that surround a new parking lot in front of the swimming pool.

"This will also provide maintenance access around the new building and will provide vehicle access to the existing all-weather stadium. It will also be improved by providing electric vehicles and mobile charging and enhanced bicycle parking.

"Unlike the existing sports center, the exterior of the new swimming pool building will be modern. It will have clean lines, simple details and a flat roof."

The consultation will end on Friday (December 10), and feedback on the final planning application will be received.
